of our mothers on this special day.

Conservation is
Paying Big Bucks
(Byron Reid,
Operations Division)
Utility conservation is still on track. Water savings for the
year 2008 over 2007, at this point, is $291.62. Electric savings
for March showed a reduction in the bill of $541.56, for the
month. The total savings year-to-date over 2007 is $1533.
The landscaping project to improve the islands and beds is
progressing, but we still need volunteers. Call the office if
you can give some time to this effort.
We had a good day weeding and accomplished a lot. Please set
aside May 17, for our last big push to put down mulch and finish
weeding before the hot weather makes it more difficult.
The lawns should begin to look better as we found the pump had
given up and a new one was installed. The sprinkler system is
next on the agenda.
Paul Cline met with our new air conditioning contractor, and a
maintenance pro-gram has been set up.
Mike Yatsuk continues to attend to daily requests for repairs.
The new ice machine and fountain are here and will be installed
before May 1.
Thanks to all who are pitching in to get ready for the
Presbytery meeting being held at WBTS in September. We will
start painting projects by the end of May. Volunteers are
welcome. Come and join us for fellowship and good works for the
House of the Lord.

Two Chris
Sumners ?
Believe it or not, there are two people named Chris
Sumner and both are getting
married–one in June and the other in August. One, of course, is
our pastor’s son; the other is a stranger. So if you are
checking the internet, make sure you have the right groom. His
bride is Amanda Broemel, and the wedding date is August 8.
The shower scheduled for May 3, is really a time for everyone to
get acquainted with Amanda. Her parents will be here and they
will appreciate meeting Amanda’s new church family.

Cubs Game
Let’s meet at the Ball Park on May 12, at 7:05.
Admission is $10.00, and includes all you can eat (hamburgers,
hot dogs, pizza, peanuts, etc.). The Daytona Cubs are playing
the Brevard County Hammerheads, a farm team of the Milwaukee
Brewers. It’s going to be a fun game.

Thank You!
A Thank You from Dottie Armstrong The prayers, cards, flowers,
and telephone calls received during my long illness were very
inspirational. West-minster’s congregation overflows with love
and kindness. I am pleased to report that I am feeling much
better.

Parking
A special notice relating to the parking along Peninsula
Drive in front of the church and the Christian Education wing.
For several years, this parking situation
has been discussed, alternatives have been suggested and some
options may be possible in the future. Perpendicular parking in
front requires backing out into and across traffic onto
Peninsula Drive. With increased traffic, and increased speeds of
oncoming vehicles, two accidents and several near incidents have
caused great concern.
This parking area does not meet current city regulations but has
been grandfathered into Daytona Beach Shores zoning, if left un-
touched. Any change from perpendicular parking (angle parking
for example) would be denied a zoning request. For the safety of
all, and in an effort to prevent more accidents, the Session has
voted to block off all parking in this area. The space will be
continue to be available for funeral or wedding or church drop
off.
We realize that this may cause an inconvenience to some, and we
apologize. Persons visiting the library and civic groups who
meet in the Peninsula House are welcome to park in the grassy
lot behind it, or in the paved lot north of the sanctuary and
walk across the sidewalks. Those attending services in the
Chapel will find the north and back lots convenient enough.
Additional handicapped parking spaces are being planned.
Thank you for your understanding as we seek to keep people safe
along Peninsula Drive in front of our church.

Every
Little Bit Helps
For recycling, a large blue trash can
has been placed in the kitchen and one in the office. Empty
cans, bottles, and paper that is not glossy should be placed in
these containers, and every Sunday night the youth will get the
recyclables ready for Tuesdays’ collection. Let’s all work
together to make Westminster better stewards of this world!

Financial Update (Dave
Hughes)
First quarter financial results are good news. Overall
member revenues are above plan by $3000, and that combined with
careful spending puts us on target with the budget.

The Attic
Sale
The Attic Sale on March 29th was a great
success. The money earned will be used for the many causes
supported by the Women of the Church. Our success was only
possible because of the many volun-teers, women and men, who
worked so tirelessly for two days. Many thanks to all of them.
